Add a Project from an Opportunity
New projects can be created based on existing opportunities in the system. When the project is created, information is automatically defaulted into select fields for the project.
You can create a new project from an opportunity by:
- Using the New From - Opportunity feature and then selecting the New Project transformation
- Opening an existing Opportunity through the Save As feature and then selecting the New Project transformation
- Opening an existing Project Opportunity through the Related Items - New Project feature
Add a Project from an Opportunity
A new project can be created based on an existing opportunity in the following ways:
Use the Opportunity Related Item to Create a Project
- With the opportunity opened, then click the Related Items
button and select the New Project option.
Save an Opportunity as a Project
For more information on the save process, see Save a Document.
- With the opportunity opened, click the Save
button and then select the Save As option.
The Save As dialog box displays. - In Transformations, select the New Project option.
- Click Create.
Create a New Project from an Opportunity

- From the toolbar, click the New
button and then select the New From... option.
The New dialog box displays. - In the Types area, select Opportunity.
- In the Results area, search for and select the opportunity.
- In Transformations, select the New Project option.
- Click the New button.
Information Imported into the New Project
When a new project is created based on an existing opportunity, the following information is defaulted into the project:

| Name | This field defaults to the opportunity Name. |
| Client | This field defaults to the opportunity Client. |
| Currency | This field defaults to the opportunity Currency. |
| Fee Amount |
This field defaults to the opportunity Fee, which is a sum of all labor, expense, subconsultant values across all companies and organizations. Note: If the opportunity Fee is negative, the Fee Amount defaults to zero. |
| Start Date | This field defaults to the opportunity Project Start Date. |
| Finish Date | This field defaults to the opportunity Project Finish Date. |
| Work Type | This field defaults to the opportunity Work Type. |
| Business Unit | This field defaults to the opportunity Business Unit. |
| Market Segment | This field defaults to the opportunity Market Segment. |
| Service Line | This field defaults to the opportunity Service Line. |
| Description | This field defaults to the opportunity Description. |
| Comment | This field defaults to the opportunity Comment. |
| Manager | This field defaults to the opportunity Manager. |
| Company | This field defaults to the opportunity Company, which is defined in either the General or Responsibility area depending on the displayed view. |
| Organization | This field defaults to the opportunity Organization, which is defined in either the General or Responsibility area depending on the displayed view. |
| Locations | This defaults to all of the locations defined for the opportunity. |
| Contacts | This defaults to all of the contacts defined for the opportunity. |
| Variance Level | This is defaulted to 1. |
| Organization Variance Responsibility | This is set to All unless an appropriate default has been defined for your firm. |
| Budget Category Variance Responsibility | This is set to All unless an appropriate default has been defined for your firm. |
| Budgets |
Budgeted organizations will be created as children of the root level task, and budgets are created as children of each budgeted organization. A budget is only created if it will have an amount and an appropriate budget category has been defined in Global Settings. How the budget is created is dependent on how variance level rules are set in the project.

| Authorizations |
The opportunity's estimated fees will be defaulted as authorizations.

Add a New project Using Project Template
You can also use the Project Template property on an opportunity to identify a project template to use when creating a new project from the opportunity.
Information Imported into the New Project Using Project Template
When project template is used to create a new project from an opportunity, the following Project Template information is used (instead of the Opportunity data) in the newly created project:
- Project - Pricing Tab fields (all)
- Project - Tasks Tab fields (all)
- Project - Resources Tab fields (all)
- Project - Bill Terms Tab fields (all)
- Project - Bill Structure Tab fields (all)
- Project - Info Tab - Project Controls Property Group

Note: When Bill Terms are created, the Client is the Client on the opportunity. |
The following additional Project Template fields are also populated into the new project:

| Company | Company if copied from an opportunity, remains from the opportunity. Otherwise, the newly created project company is the company of the employee. |

Manager if copied from an opportunity, remains from the opportunity. Otherwise, the newly created project manager is the manager of the employee. |
| Locations | Locations contains Project Template locations and the Opportunity details locations. If both Template and the Opportunity have Primary set for a location, Primary on the newly created project is the associated location from the Primary Opportunity location. |
| Contacts | Contacts contains Project Template contacts and the Opportunity details contacts. If both Template and the Opportunity have Primary set for a contact, Primary on the newly created project is the associated contact from the Primary Opportunity contact. |
| Opportunities | Opportunities contains Project Template opportunities and a new entry for the source opportunity. |
