Code and Name
For most document instances that you create, you will define a code and name. Defined codes are used to select, reference, group, sort, list, and report information. The name helps to further identify the instance associated with the code.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Code |
Enter a unique alphanumeric key to identify the document. Once a code has been entered and the document has been submitted to final, it typically cannot be changed. Up to 16 characters can be entered. |
| Name |
Enter a name to describe the document. The name does not have to be unique. Up to 128 characters can be entered. |
Edits to Code and Name
When a document is in a draft state while it is initially added, the code can be edited. Once a document is submitted and moved to the final state, most codes cannot be edited again.
Display Name
The Display Name is a system property on every document that uses a configurable formula to derive a user friendly name for the display and search of each document instance. The typical formula is Code – Name (for example, FEDX – Federal Express), which can be configured independently in each document type based upon your specific needs .
